PhD Studentship in Molecular Neuroscience
Applications are invited for a PhD position in the laboratory of Dr Paul Young in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, University College Cork, Ireland. Project Title Investigation of LNX proteins as novel regulators of synaptic function and potential drug targets in neurological disorders. Project Details LNX1 and LNX2 proteins are closely related E3 ubiquitin ligases that are expressed in neurons. We have described anxiety-related behavioural abnormalities in mice lacking LNX1 and/or LNX2. Taking advantage of our access to LNX1 and LNX2 knockout mice, this project seeks to identify the developmental processes, neural circuit(s) and molecular mechanisms by which loss of LNX function leads to these behavioural alterations. The project will also identify the molecular interactions that are relevant to LNX protein function in vivo. Overall, the project will provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying brain circuits that control behaviours of relevance to anxiety and autism spectrum disorders and potentially support further investigation of LNX proteins as novel drug targets.
