PhD Positions in SDC
DTU Chemical Engineering seeks qualified candidates for vacant PhD positions.
The positions are part of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC), which is a partnership between all eight Danish Universities, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS).
In the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering, DTU Chemical Engineering has, to the benefits of Danish companies cooperating in China and globally, established a close education and research cooperation with the CAS Institute of Process Engineering under the framework of SDC.
We are looking for PhD candidates interested in working in an international and intercultural environment. The working language is English. Knowledge of Danish is beneficial for the positions. The positions are not available for Chinese citizens.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The candidates will perform research within one of the following areas:
- Thermochemical conversion of biomass and waste
- Sustainable waste recycling and utilization
- Use of artificial intelligence in process system simulation and control
- Coating science and technology
The PhD projects will be carried out at DTU Chemical Engineering. The candidates are expected to have external stays in China for a total period of 6-9 months to support our SDC MSc programme in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, and to conduct research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
You must have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
